Soon after she was cast, Susannah York discovered she was pregnant. So she went to Robert Altman, and told him she would be unable to take the part because her condition. The director told her that was wonderful news, and there was no need for her to give up the part. He told her they would write her pregnancy into the script; her character Cathryn also would be pregnant. “We had one total nude shot, and she wasn’t sure about that, but I said, ‘That’s the fun of it, to see that Rubens body.”-Altman said.
